Top 10 Robot Vacuums 2019

As we’re at the beginning of another new year it was time to create an up to date list of the top 10 robot vacuums 2019.

When you’re ready to invest in a new gadget for your home and if there’s a lot of choice, it helps to look at what other people are buying and whether they like it enough to tell you about it.

Check out my Top 10 below and I’ll tell you later how I rated them.

Top Choice – Shark Ion 750

shark ion robot 750
SHARK ION Robot Vacuum R75

I’m not surprised that this Shark Ion 750 robot vacuum came out on the top of the list. Shark have done a good job of producing a machine that can fit into most peoples budget. It’s in the best seller list of all 3 stores and has over 1000 reviews.

With a 4.7 star rating it’s proving itself a favourite to buyers. When it comes to features it covers most of my criteria, works well on carpets and can be controlled with your phone or by voice if you have Alexa or Google Home.

It vacuums the floor using a random pattern and runs for around 90 minutes which covers a standard home size. It is less than 3 inches in height which makes it easier to fit under furniture which is one of the benefits you get from a robot vacuum. It’s available at Amazon or Best Buy. Why not check out the best price today.

#2 – Roomba 960

Roomba 960 robot vacuum
iRobot Roomba 960

The Roomba 960 misses out on the top spot only because it comes in at a price over $500. If that price isn’t a problem for you then you can pick up a very clever robot. This isn’t the top Roomba model, that is the i7+, but the 960 offers most features you might want in a robot vacuum.

This works well on all floor types with dirt detect for extra suction on dirtier areas. The 900 series Roomba’s use camera mapping to identify the room and objects within it so that you have a quicker more efficient clean.

If you have a larger house this robot vacuum will clean for at least 75 minutes on one charge and if that doesn’t clean the whole floor it will recharge itself and return to finish the job. All this can be controlled via an app on your phone and you can also use voice control. Newer robot vacuums are becoming shorter in height as technology improves but the Roomba range are all around 3.6 inches which can make it a tighter fit under furniture.

This has many good reviews and a star rating of 4.6, it’s also sold well in all stores. Find out more from Amazon, Best Buy or Walmart.

#3 Roomba 690

Roomba 690 robot vacuum
iRobot Roomba 690

The Roomba 690 was released to give a wifi version of the most popular model at the time the Roomba 650. Alexa was becoming a big thing and people wanted to be able to voice control their gadgets and used their phone to control it, so iRobot complied.

The 690 had the most reviews out of all of the robot vacuums we looked at but it’s star rating was slightly less, although 4.5 is still impressive. It’s also on all of the best seller lists.

The battery life was improved by changing to lithium and runs for over 60 minutes. The mapping style of movement is random as in most of the cheaper cleaners, zig zagging around the floor. The height is over 3 inches so depending on the gap under your furniture will determine if it can manoeuvre. Roomba’s have good suction and can clean on all floors making them suitable for most homes. Check it out at Amazon, or Best Buy to see where the best deal can be found.

#4 Roomba 675

Roomba 675 robot vacuum
iRobot Roomba 675

The Roomba 675 is pretty much the same as the Roomba 690. It’s cheaper in price and that will attract people it’s around $30 cheaper but what it doesn’t include in the box which the 690 does, is the virtual wall. If you don’t think you would use one then it’s a good deal but to buy one is around $60 so if you do want one check out the 690.

This robot vacuum has less reviews than some others but it is a relatively new release. It’s already worked itself onto 2 bestseller lists proving itself good value.

If you’re looking for an all round robot vacuum that works on all floor types, has wifi and voice control with decent cleaning time you won’t be disappointed. It is over 3 inches high like all Roomba vacuum cleaners and cleans randomly but it does clean well and copes with pet hair too. Check out more at Amazon.com or at Best Buy.

#5 Ilife A4s

ilife A4s robot vacuum
ILIFE A4s Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Ilife offer a good range of robot vacuums at an affordable price and the Ilife A4S is one of them. It has a lot of good reviews and is available in 2 of our chosen stores. This model doesn’t have wifi or voice so if that is important to you, check out some of the others.

The vacuum is controlled with a remote which allows you to set a schedule for automatic cleaning or to press a button for an instant start. It will run for over 2 hours, so plenty of time to give your floor a good clean.

The A4S sits at 3 inches high and moves around randomly to clean. It does have a max mode to give you some extra suction if you feel your carpets need it, which can be selected using the remote. Why not see if it fits your needs by checking on Amazon.com

#6 Eufy 11s

eufy robovac 11s
Eufy Boost IQ Robovac 11s

Eufy have designed a slim robot vacuum in the 11s that can fit under your furniture, at 2.85 inches. They’ve kept the price low and have attracted plenty of buyers who don’t mind giving a good review.

This works on all floor types and also has boost IQ. What this means is that it automatically detects if it goes onto carpets from hard floors and will increase the suction within a few seconds.

This doesn’t have wifi or voice capability but does include a remote.

The Eufy 11s gives you at least 100 minutes of cleaning time on a hard floor but if you have carpets it will be a bit less depending on how much carpet you have as it takes more power to clean. Like most cheaper robot vacuums the cleaning pattern is random which zig zags around the room, eventually cleaning all of it.

If you aren’t bothered about wifi control this is a good robot vacuum to consider. Check it out at Amazon.com

#7 Samsung Powerbot R7040

Samsung POWERbot R7040 robot vacuum
Samsung POWERbot R7040

The Samsung R7040 has a specific shape that looks a bit like a Star Wars helmet. In fact they have a Darth Vader model with sound effects that proved very popular.

This model offers full room mapping with the on board camera which means it cleans in a linear pattern so it doesn’t miss anywhere and it’s tracked on the app so it can return to finish if it runs out of charge. This robot does use wifi and can connect to voice control too.

The Samsung R7040 has powerful suction and works well on carpets as well as hard floors. It does have the patented edge cleaning function which scoops in the dirt from the edges of the floor. It is quite tall at 3.8 inches and the cleaning time is only 60 minutes so worth noting.

I’m surprised that Samsung isn’t more popular, it has a good price in the mid range but you can pick up a bargain if you check all stores. Check Amazon.com, Best Buy or Walmart to see who has the best prices today.

#8 Ecovacs N79s

ECOVACS DEEBOT N79S
ECOVACS DEEBOT N79S Robot Vacuum Cleaner

The Ecovacs N79s is a great choice of robot vacuum to fit a tight budget. It keeps the cost down but still offers an app so that you can use your phone to send it cleaning as well as the option for voice control. It does come with a remote control if you don’t have wifi.

This does work on all floor surfaces but if you have carpets it suggest to only use on thin carpets so this might be ok if you have hard floors and rugs but if you are fully carpeted it probably isn’t the best choice.

The Ecovacs can run for up to 120 minutes to give your floors a good clean and although it’s not the thinnest at just over 3 inches it will fit under most furniture with a gap, relatively easily. If you’re wanting to try a robot vacuum but don’t want a massive outlay then check this out at Amazon.com

#9 Roomba 890

Roomba 890 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
iRobot Roomba 890 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

You might be wondering what the Roomba 890 can offer over the 2 cheaper Roomba robot vacuums we’ve featured. This 890 is a bit more expensive than the other 2 but it gives more suction power so helpful if you have carpets. It also uses the rubber brushes underneath so that it has less tangles to clean.

You still get the app to use it with your phone and you can link it with Alexa and just ask it to clean. It still has a random clean although you now get the dirt detect which will go over dirtier areas automatically and you have a better filter.

This Roomba still gives a random clean and can run for up to 90 minutes. It’s just 3.6 inches high so if you want it to clean under your couch it’s worth checking the height and if it’s less than 4 inches you might want to check smaller vacuums. If you want that bit of extra suction then check out the prices at Amazon.com or Best Buy.

#10 Neato D5

Neato Botvac D5
Neato Botvac D5 Connected

The Neato D5 like the rest of its family is a D shaped robot vacuum. This doesn’t detract from its ability to clean, it has corner clever technology so it can get into and out of corners easily.

The app lets you set timing and start your vacuum. It also has laser mapping and will keep the map so you can see where it has cleaned. You also have the option to add lines on the map which are barriers that your robot vacuum won’t cross, very helpful to protect it from areas with lots of wiring.

The Neato isn’t the lowest at 3.9 inches and the corner clever lifts it for manoeuvring so it can get stuck underneath the furniture. It can clean for up to 2 hours and if that doesn’t do the whole floor it will return to complete the cleaning after recharging. It’s not the cheapest in the list but reasonably priced for the technology included. Find out more about it at Walmartor Amazon.com.

How the list was scored

To get a comprehensive list I have used 3 top stores that buyers like to use and chosen from their top 20 bestseller robot vacuums. The stores used are Amazon.com, Best Buy and Walmart.

From these lists I looked at the number of reviews given, the star rating and the price. Using these criteria I whittled the list down to my top 10. To decide which order to put them in I gave a score for each section, the number of reviews, star rating, price, if the product was in more than 1 top 20 list and the features offered.

The features I checked were the ones that I looked for when I was choosing my robot vacuum. I wanted to know what type of mapping it had, a random cleaning pattern or if it had a laser/camera scanning the room. Random mapping was given 1 point and full room mapping given 2.

I wanted to use my phone to start the cleaning with the option of voice if I decided to get an Amazon echo or an equivalent, so if there was wifi and voice control I gave 3 points, just wifi got 2 and neither got 1.

I have a small home so the length of cleaning time was less of an issue for me but it may be for others, so if the battery life was over 60 minutes it received 2 points and 60 minutes or less got 1.

I have a lot of carpet in my home so it was important to me that the robot vacuum could handle standard carpets. If it could it got 3 points, if it could only manage on thin carpet it got 2 points and just hard floors got 1 point. Using the premise that if the robot vacuum can clean on carpet then it can clean on all floor surfaces.

Last but not least I looked at the height of the cleaner so it can fit under any furniture I have with legs, so if it was under 3 inches it got 2 points, over got 1.

It wasn’t surprising that the Shark 750 and the Roomba 690 are in the top few robot vacuums. They offer good value, they’re very similar, (check out a comparison here) and can clean all types of flooring. If customers are loving them then you will too.
