It was quite surprising to find that they were very similar in features as well as price as the iRobot brand is quite well known in the robot vacuum arena whereas the Shark is more well known for upright vacuums.

Comparison of the Shark Ion Robot 750 vs Roomba 690
Overview of the Shark Ion Robot 750
The Shark Ion Robot 750 is made by a market leader in vacuum cleaners and is one of the newer range of robot vacuums being offered. It’s features:
- It offers scheduling using an app.
- The brush underneath the vacuum can clean and collect hair without tangling.
- Sensors that can move between different floor levels and avoid obstacles.
- 2 side brushes to reach into nooks and crannies.
- Running time of over an hour due to lithium battery
Most people are looking for a simple to control vacuum that can clean the floor decently, can make life easier by being scheduled for automatic cleaning and that doesn’t have too much maintenance as you don’t want to be messing about with it too much. Can the Shark deliver?
Most of the newer robot vacuums are being made with wifi capability so you can control it from your smartphone and the Shark offers the same option. Once paired with the app you can manually control your robot vacuum and schedule cleaning on a daily basis.
The Shark 750 can handle transitions between different floor types quite easily so if you have hardwood floors or carpeted or a mixture of both you’re vacuum will carry on cleaning. You have a running time of over an hour depending on your floor type which is usually enough to clean an average floor space. There is a tangle free type rotary brush on the base of the vacuum and 2 spinning side brushes which together sweep up the dirt into the bin which is easily accessed on the side of the unit.
You will be surprised at how much dirt a robot vacuum can pick up, especially if you have a pet so expect to empty the bin more often in the beginning but if you are cleaning daily you will find that is required less often. Emptying the bin, tapping the dirt off the filter and detangling the rotary brush is the main points of maintenance, a quick check daily and you’re always ready to go.
This 750 cleans in a random pattern changing direction when it encounters an obstacle and it has sensors built in to identify objects so it can move away from them, it can also detect a drop on stairs or a step. The robot vacuum comes with a magnetic strip which you can lay down around areas that you don’t want your vacuum to cross.
Overall it does what you want, it doesn’t work in the most efficient way but effectively cleans your whole floor and does it well. As you will see the features between the Shark ion robot vs Roomba 690 are very similar.
Overview of the iRobot Roomba 690
The iRobot Roomba 690 is one of the newer version of robot vacuums released this year from iRobot, they upgraded 2 of their vacuums to work with wifi so they can be controlled via an app or by voice with Alexa or Google assistant. It’s features:
- Set up a daily schedule for cleaning. Use the app for to start from anywhere.
- 2 Rotary brushes clean floors of debris easily.
- Dirtier areas picked up by Dirt Detect sensors.
- Adapts automatically to different types of floor
Like the Shark 750 this iRobot Roomba 690 robot vacuum has wifi so it can be controlled with the downloaded app on your smartphone or it still has button controls on the top of the unit so you can still manually start your vacuum with just a push of a button. You can schedule cleaning on a daily basis at a time that suits you. There is a dirt detection sensor that can tell if it’s dirtier than normal and it will send the vacuum over it a few times the same as you would if you were doing it yourself.
The Roomba 690 is an updated version of the Roomba 650, it can run up to 60 minutes on one charge and it can handle all floor types with ease. This vacuum has good suction and can deal with pet hair and debris using its combined blade and bristle rotary brush underneath and its side brush which sweep everything into the path of the suction, through the filter into the dust bin.
The mapping software on the 690 is based on a random pattern which moves itself around the room, sometimes covering areas more than once eventually covering the whole floor. It has drop sensors so it can’t fall down stairs and to help it avoid obstacles. The cleaning pattern of the Roomba 690 vs Shark ion 750 are both random pattern. This robot vacuum comes with a virtual wall so you can block off areas of your home.
The Roomba 690 is a well made piece of equipment that is easy to setup and use, whatever flooring you have or if you have pets that shed this can manage the job.

When looking at the Shark ion 750 vs Roomba 690 you will find that both of these vacuum cleaners are around the same price and offer very similar features. They both offer control via an app and both can be setup for voice control and they both allow you to set up daily cleaning.
Both of these work on the same mapping software which is randomly cleaning and changing direction when an obstacle is encountered, they both have spot clean but the Roomba 690 does have dirt detection. The Roomba has 2 rotary brushes underneath rather than the 1 on the Shark but it has 2 side brushes compared to 1 on the Roomba.
The Shark 750 has a lower profile at 2.6 inches to the Roomba 3.6 inches making it a little easier for it to get underneath pieces of furniture without getting stuck. The Roomba provides a virtual wall to create a barrier from your vacuum where the Shark has a magnetic strip which does a similar job.
Overall there’s not much to choose between these 2 cleaners. They are much the same in design, do the same job and both have good customer reviews showing excellent performance. It’s hard to decide which I like better. Whether you have pets or regardless of the type of flooring you might have they will both work excellently. If you need a lower profile vacuum to fit under your furniture then I would go for the Shark Ion Robot 750 as there is an inch difference in the height.
