Neato Robotics offer a great range of robotic vacuums for the home and their D3 is a shining example of that. You will recognise the Neato vacuums by their D shape which has been chosen so that the edge can incorporate the cleaning brush underneath for a large cleaning area.

Laser mapping

In some brands of robot vacuums laser mapping is only just being installed and used but the Neato range has had it for a while. This D3 has laser room mapping and what that does is to scan the room and the objects in it so that it can work out the best route to clean the room the most efficiently. It then cleans around the edge of the room then back and forth within till the whole room is cleaned.

This not only makes it efficient at cleaning but if by any chance the vacuum runs out of charge it will return to recharge and then will remember where it finished and go back there to continue cleaning. This isn’t something that you usually get in a cheaper robot vacuum but it’s not much different to what’s available in the Neato D7 which is the latest in the range.

Lithium-ion battery

The Neato Robotics D3 comes with a lithium-ion battery that can hold a charge for around 60 minutes. This really depends on the type of flooring you have, it takes less energy to clean around a hardwood floor than it does to clean and move over a carpeted area. The vacuum comes with a docking station that stays plugged in to the wall where your robot vacuum will charge up and return to after cleaning. It needs to be set up in a clear area where the robot vacuum has space to manoeuvre itself onto the charging points when it returns.

Wi-fi connected

You have the option to setup the controls on this Neato D3 robot vacuum by downloading the Neato app which allows you to set your own cleaning schedule so that you can clean daily or however many days you wish to clean to suit you. It will automatically start cleaning by itself and carry on until it has completed the floor space, even if it needs to recharge in the middle of it. All you need to do is to empty the dust bin and tap clean the filter and you are always ready to go. You can use the app to manually set the robot cleaning at any time you wish, even when you’re not there and if you have an echo device and want to connect your robot vacuum so that you can control it by voice command then you can with the D3.

Cleaning ability

The Neato range uses SpinFlow Power Clean which is a strong suction used in conjunction with precision brushes so that it picks up dirt and dust from the floor leaving them immaculately clean. It also picks up pet hair and can clean on any type of flooring. The D shape allows it to get into corners to clean them as well as you would as well as along the edges of the floors. It has an extra large dust bin so that it doesn’t need emptying as often.

Customer Opinion

What customers like about this product is that it’s easy to set up, they also like the messages that come through to tell you if it has completed the cleaning or gotten stuck. They like the fact that it can map the floor before it cleans even at the lower price. Most people are surprised at how much dirt it can pick up when it goes cleaning.

The things that buyers haven’t liked are some have had problems with the wi-fi connection, losing it for no reason. Others have found that it seems to get stuck a lot in areas and has to be rescued.
