Today we’ll be looking at a Neato Pet and Allergy Robotic Vacuum that offers some good features for a cheaper robot vacuum under $500.
The Neato Botvac D80 Robot Vacuum for Pets and Allergies is one of the earlier Neato vacuums and often gets overlooked by his Neato Connected successors.
Read on for a Neato Botvac D80 Review detailing some of it’s impressive features even though it doesn’t have a remote control or wifi.
This Botvac D80 can still offer an efficient and effective cleaning experience for anyone who isn’t bothered about being connected with wifi control. Apart from that you can get a robot vacuum that handles hair pick up, can clean systematically which is quicker than the random cleaning patterns offered by other robot vacuums in this price range.
Neato Botvac D80 Review
When you start looking at reviews of robot vacuums the first thing that is obvious is the way the vacuum is programmed to clean. Most of the cheaper versions or earlier versions of more well known makes have their vacuums cleaning in a random pattern. That doesn’t mean it’s bad but it isn’t as efficient as when the vacuum cleans in a systematic linear pattern and with this way of cleaning you know that there won’t be any areas that get missed. The Neato Botvac D80 maps the room, determines where any obstacles are and works out the best cleaning path. You normally only get this on more expensive models.
Spinflow Cleaning System
The Botvac D80 has the Neato D Shape design which gives a good straight edge with a long brush length at the front of the vacuum allowing it to get right up to wall edges and cornering technology so it can manoeuvre while cleaning so it gets into all the difficult areas. There is a rotating brush underneath and you have the option of just a blade which works well on all floors or you can use a combined blade and bristle brush that is great for picking up hair and a little quieter. It has a little spinning side brush for getting into nooks and crannies and the powerful suction can pick up all types of dirt.
Hair Pick Up
The D80 doesn’t discriminate with hair, it can pick up human or pet hair keeping you floors remarkably clean. The combined bristle brush can pick up hair from hard floors and carpets, getting into the pile of the carpet for maximum collection and the extra large filter can pick up a lot of dust too, this high performance filter capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, like mold and pet dander so you could feel a difference in air quality if you suffer from allergies.
To hold the extra large filter is a large dustbin that is situated on the top of the robot vacuum, so no issues with it being knocked loose or not closing correctly. With the bagless bin it’s easy to empty and the filter just needs to be tapped against the garbage can to remove excess dirt. The filters will last a while but the replacements are readily available on Amazon.com. When you first use your vacuum you may have to empty your bin in the middle of the cleaning as you will be surprised at how much dirt it can collect, but once you have a regular cleaning schedule going you just need to empty it every day and it will always be ready.
Easy to Schedule
Although the Botvac D80 doesn’t have wifi control like the Neato D5 Connected it can still be scheduled using the control and the small screen on the top of the unit. To be able to schedule your vacuum to clean your house on a daily basis is one of the major benefits of a robot vacuum over a standard vacuum because it can be done whether you are there or not. You can set a cleaning schedule to clean whatever time you wish daily or less days if you want, you can even set it to clean when you are out so that everything is clean for when you return. You don’t have to schedule you can set off your vacuum by pressing the start button on the top of the vacuum and it will go to work.
Return and Resume
The best part about owning a robot vacuum is the fact that it can clean your room without you doing anything, the mapping sets the path the vacuum will use to clean but depending on the size of the room it might not have enough charge in the batteries to get the job completed. This isn’t a problem for the Neato Botvac D80 because when the batteries run down the robot vacuum will head back to the charging dock to re-charge. On cheaper vacuums that use a random pattern of cleaning this is usually the end of cleaning for that day whether completed or not because it doesn’t have the programming to know where it was in the cleaning process, but the D80 does. The laser mapping knows where the vacuum is at all times so when the re-charge is done it can return to where it was and carry on. You will get the whole floor clean with this Neato robot vacuum.
The Neato D80 has sensors to map the room and to detect obstacles before it cleans. It also has sensors to detect a drop off so that it doesn’t fall down the stairs or off a step. If it senses and obstacle it will manoeuvre itself around it without continually bumping into it and if there are specific areas that you don’t want your Neato to clean you get a magnetic boundary marker which you can drop down onto the floor and the vacuum sensors won’t let it pass. This is very handy if you have areas like your pet feeding area that you don’t want it to go into.
If you want a robot vacuum that can offer a great cleaning experience with advanced mapping and methodical cleaning then why not check out the Neato Botvac D80. This robot vacuum has no remote control or wifi app to control it but if you set a schedule you’re not likely to use controls that much anyway. For a reasonable price you get a very well designed machine that can serve you well.
