Here are the features:

  • LaserSmart mapping and navigation system scans and maps the room, plans, and methodically cleans—instead of bumping around.
  • D-Shape design with CornerClever technology gets close to walls and into corners. Maximum hair pickup. Picks up more pet hair than other bots.
  • SpinFlow Power Clean combines potent suction and precision brushes to leave floors immaculately clean. Includes both combo brush, spiral blade brush, and side brush.
  • Auto-Charge & Resume lets your robot clean room to room; when it needs more power, it automatically returns to charge, then returns to where it left off & finishes the job.
  • Kindly refer the user manual given below for product information.
  • No international Shipping.• Be sure the charging base has 3’ of clearance of both sides. This facilitates the robot returning to base without issues.

So what does LaserSmart mapping mean? This is patented technology by Neato, which allows the Botvac to use laser floor mapping, to detect where the walls are and where objects are in the room so that it can clean in the most efficient way. Each time you use the Neato Botvac D80 it remembers more.

The D-shape design is made to make it easier to get into corners and awkward places. It is 12.7 x 13.2 x 3.9 inches in size, and the height of the gap under your furniture will determine if the Botvac D80 can clean underneath, it’s great for under beds and sofas. It has been designed for the best hair pick up, this includes pet hair, which makes this a good choice if you have pets that shed their coats.

This robot vacuum has powerful suction, combined with the brushes installed to allow it to pick up an amazing amount of dirt and hair, much more than you think for such a little machine.

The Neato Botvac has a docking base, which is where you charge the main unit, this needs to be set up in a clear area which will allow the Botvac to return to the base for re-charging. This little vacuum is clever enough to know when it is running out of charge, it will then return to the base, re-charge then set off back to where it had finished to resume cleaning.

You can also set this vacuum up with a cleaning schedule, through the buttons on the front, and once it is set up you’re good to go, if you want it to clean automatically. For manual use, you can just press the home button on the front of the machine and it will start.

The Neato Botvac D80 can clean on any type of floor without adjustment, it has a removable bin within the top of the machine which houses a filter. The bin is 0.7 litres which is bigger than most robot vacuums, it is easy to empty, which is required after every use, and the filter can easily be cleaned with the tool that is included. This needs to be done regularly to keep your vacuum working in the most efficient way.

There is also a spot clean function on the Neato D80 which you can use if you have a heavier spill of something. Just set your machine next to the spill, press the button and it will map out an area of approximately 3 ft by 5 ft then it systematically goes over it.

This machine doesn’t include any virtual walls but it does include magnetic strip, you can cut it to size and then lay it on the floor in front of the area you do not want the vacuum to go. This is great for areas like your pet food bowls or certain rooms that you don’t want cleaning or just to stop it from going into areas that it can get stuck in.

Who is this  Neato Botvac D80 for?

This Neato Botvac D80 robot vacuum is at the lower price range for robot vacuums, but that doesn’t detract from it’s capabilities, so we would suggest that this would be a great starter machine for someone who doesn’t want to lay out a lot of money.

This is a good machine for picking up pet hair and definitely suitable for anyone with pets, in fact it will pick up any type of hair. With the high performance filter capturing very small particles, like mold and pet dander, it is a good choice for people with allergies.

With real-time object detection, the Neato robot vacuum is programmed to avoid obstacles rather than just bump into them so, it may be easier on your furniture.

Customer Opinion

Good Points

Most customers are really pleased with the way it cleans, the fact is can suck up dust bunnies, cat and dog hair and more. People who have tried both iRobot vacuums and this Neato Botvac D80 find the Neato quieter and are amazed at how thorough it is.

Bad Points

There have been issues with the quality of some units and some software problems.

Verdict

This Neato Botvac D80 Robot Vacuum for Pets and Allergies is a great machine, it’s methodical in cleaning, has a large bin and picks up well  if you have pets. It doesn’t have any handset or wi-fi like other robot vacuums, but everything can be set on the machine and once set doesn’t need adjusting unless you want to change your cleaning day.
