Neato Botvac Connected Review

Features of the Botvac Connected

  • Wi-Fi connected for ultimate control — use the Neato app to clean your floors from wherever you are and receive notifications on the go.
  • D-Shape design with CornerClever technology cleans close to walls and into corners. Long lasting Li-Ion battery.
  • LaserSmart mapping and navigation with real-time object detection scans and maps the room, plans, and methodically cleans-instead of just bumping around.
  • Eco & Turbo mode — you choose. Eco gives a longer, quieter energy-saving clean. Turbo provides a super-powered cleaning-with maximum hair pickup.
  • For issues, please refer to the user manual or contact Neato support at 1-877-296-3286.All existing and new Botvac Connected customers will have access to the Amazon Alexa skill today in the US, UK and later this year in Germany

The Neato Botvac Connected is the recognised D-Shape design, the benefit of this design allows the brush to go along the straight edge of the vacuum. The CornerClever technology makes it easier for the Neato to manoeuvre around corners while cleaning them.

There is a docking station that comes with the Botvac so that it can be charged, this needs to be set up in a clear area so that the robot vacuum has no obstructions when returning to be recharged and enough space to manoeuvre itself so that it can settle on the charging points correctly. When the battery is fully charged you are ready to start cleaning.

There are 3 cleaning modes on the Neato Botvac Connected, house clean mode, spot mode and manual cleaning mode. The house clean mode is the default mode and this is the setting to clean all the rooms on one level. Once you press start and set the robot vacuum to clean the first thing it does is to map the room using rotating laser technology to cover 360 degrees. This takes in the shape of the room and any objects inside it. Once it knows the shape of the room it starts by cleaning around the edge, when it has cleaned the whole circumference it then cleans backwards and forwards in a linear pattern till the whole body of the room is cleaned. It works very efficiently and can clean a 12 x 12 foot room in about 10 minutes.

The spot mode can be used if you have a spill or a specific dirty area, the spot mode will cover and area of 6.5 x 6.5 feet.

The manual cleaning mode is controlled by the app controls on your phone, it allows you to direct the vacuum to clean with the direction controls to a specific area.

When the battery runs down the Neato Botvac will work it’s way back to the dock to re-charge. The clever thing about the mapping is that it will remember exactly where it stopped before returning to the dock and after it is fully charged again it will return back to the exact same spot to resume cleaning until it’s finished.

The Neato has a choice of 2 rotary brushes, a brush with bristles and rubber beater blades which in an all over performance brush great for picking up pet hair or it also has a full rubber beater brush for deeper cleaning if you need it. There is also a side brush to get all the dust and debris from the edge of the walls. There is a large dust bin that is accessed on the top of the vacuum, it’s bagless and easy to empty. The ultra performance filter is installed in the dust bin and captures particles and fine dust as small as .3 microns which is very helpful if you have someone in your family that has allergies.

The Neato Botvac Connected is controlled via the Neato app on your smartphone or even by your smart watch. You can also sync it with Alexa voice control. You need to go through the menu on the unit till you can select wifi, this allows you to pair with your phone. The controls are very simple, you have the option to press start and your vacuum will clean in the house clean mode automatically. You also have 2 power modes, the turbo and the eco, it will automatically select the turbo which is the normal cleaning mode, you can select the eco mode if you don’t want such a deep clean and want to save on battery life.

Using the app you can also schedule a cleaning pattern based on times that fit into your life, you might want to set the cleaning for when you are not in or some people even set it to clean at night. You can clean on a daily basis or set it for which days you would like it to clean.

Customer Opinion

Customers feel liberated from having to clean on a daily basis to keep pet hair to a minimum. Buyers have found that after the first few cleans they can run it on eco and clean the whole floor without having to re-charge. People have found that it can work around most obstacles but if it gets stuck it will send a message through the app.

The negatives found are that some people have had problems with the battery and charging the Neato, some people have had it stop working after a few months, customer service wasn’t the best at dealing with problems.

Verdict

The Neato Botvac Connected is the top of the range with the latest software from Neato Robotics, it offers great cleaning on all floor types with wifi software and voice control options. The Neato Botvac Connected Amazon price also comes in cheaper than the latest versions of the iRobot Roombas.
