On this page we are going to be looking at our choices for the best mopping robot 2017.
If you’ve heard of robot vacuums or have one then you may have heard of mopping robots already but if you haven’t and are wondering what we’re talking about then let me explain what a mopping robot is and what it’s for.
If like me, when you hear mopping, you automatically think of a mop and bucket you will find that this is much more sophisticated.
If I was mopping my kitchen a mop and bucket is what I used to use, but it’s time consuming and a bit messy. Lately the way I have been mopping my kitchen is to use a mop which I can spray the floor then use a scrubbing motion to clean it, it has a washable velcro microfibre cloth and it’s not as messy but was still time consuming for me.
That is until I discovered a floor washing robot. There are some different versions, some are just for sweeping the floor with a cloth then wet wiping (robot version of mopping), some are part of a robot vacuum, you can either use the same machine with an attachment to wet wipe, and some have an attachment that can wet wipe while it is vacuuming.
I’d like to share my findings with you so if you hate cleaning floors like me it might convince you to investigate more and maybe invest in a clever machine that can do one or more of your chores for you so you can use your time for something else.
We are going to tell you how we have rated these mopping robots and come to our choice of the No1 mopping robot which is iRobot Braava 380t Mopping Robot – Robotic Mop. We looked at their cleaning ability in terms of washing the floor and how they work, their mapping capability, looking at the pattern used for cleaning to see how well it covers the floor and the ease of use, if it’s too complicated you won’t use it.

How we rated our best wet mopping robot.
Most mopping robots work in a similar vein, they have a cloth attachment that fits underneath the machine part. To wash the floor there needs to be water on the cloth and the way that is done is either with a spray attachment or a water tank of some sort or you need to wet the cloth yourself before attaching it to the base.
The water tanks can be in the cloth attachment part which would be hollow around the edge of it with a plug to allow you to fill it and keep the water in or it can be a separate water holder placed into the machine. The water works it’s way down onto the cloth either by small holes which allow it to dribble through or with a wick which sucks the water down and wets the cloth.
If there is a spray that will wet the floor and in turn the cloth. The machine drags the cloth underneath which wipes the floor as it goes, as it is not meant to soak the floor it shouldn’t take much to dry it. Some of these units have a dry mopping function which is usually used first to allow excess dust to be swept up before the mopping is done.
Mapping and Floor Coverage
What we mean by this is how the machine itself moves around the room and how it moves the machine to clean. Some of the machines that just mop usually have at least 2 modes, the dry mopping which moves in a single line backward and forward till the floor is covered, this may be controlled using a navigation cube to give the machine a point of reference.
When mopping it may agitate the machine back and forth in a scrubbing manner, just as you would yourself which can help lift the dirty marks. Some that are attached to robot vacuums can be more random movement which will clean the floor but isn’t guaranteed that it won’t cover the whole floor equally. Some of these don’t have a reservoir of water either so it will just be a wet cloth attached which you will need to keep wetting as it dries with the friction of the movement on the floor.
Ease of Use
By this we will be looking at how easy it is to set up the mopping function, whether it is totally hands off or whether you need to be involved which takes away a bit of the reason that people want a mopping robot which is to do the job for you with as little input as possible. We are also looking at what you need to use your machine, whether the parts are re-usable or disposable and how easy it is to maintain your machine for continued use.

Best Mopping Robot 2017
#1 iRobot Braava 380t Mopping Robot – Robotic Mop
The iRobot Braava 380t Mopping Robot – Robotic Mop is our No1 choice because we feel that it ticks all the boxes in a basic mopping robot that’s only job is to mop and sweep.
This is a small unit and it has 2 cleaning modes dry sweeping and wet mopping. There are 2 attachments for the base of the unit, a basic attachment for a duster cloth and an attachment with a reservoir for the wet mopping.
The unit is charged via a cradle in which it stands on end, the turbo charge takes approximately 2 hours. Unlike a robot vacuum this 380t floor mopping robot can’t be scheduled to come on when you are out, this needs to be managed a bit like a washing machine, you fill it, set it up in the area and then set it to clean. Most people set this to dry mop the area first, this is a quicker function as it just uses one pass over the area.
It cleans in a methodical way using a navigation cube to reference it’s location, when it has finished cleaning it goes around the edge before stopping. You can dry mop a large area with this machine although if it is really large another navigation cube may need to be purchased.
When you set it to wet mop the floor you need to change the fitting on the bottom to the one with a water reservoir. You can add a little cleaning solution if you want that washed floor smell after cleaning, the machine works in the same way except this time it has small back and forth movements over each part of it’s journey so it can clean up dirty spots better. It’s quite efficient in it’s movement using a back and forth zig zag type of pattern which lets it cover the whole floor quickly and accurately.
With the dry mop function you can use disposable swiffer cloths if you wish but the supplied cloths are available as spares and can be put in the washer for cleaning so you don’t need any further expense after the initial spares are purchased, although you get 1 of each in with the machine. This has proved a popular machine probably because there is little to go wrong with it but it does a reasonable job. You could easily clean your floors daily with this and all you need to do it add the cloth and set it off. This is why we chose it above the rest.
#2 iRobot Braava jet 240 Mopping Robot – Robotic Mop
The iRobot Braava jet 240 Mopping Robot – Robotic Mop is a newer version of mop created by the iRobot brand. What are the differences between this and the previous mopping robot? This robot has 3 cleaning modes, the sweeping mode, the wet sweeping mode and the scrubbing mode.
This is a very small unit and the reservoir is within the machine itself. There are no attachments for the cleaning pads as they are disposable. There are 3 types of disposable pad, one for each mode although the scrubbing pad is washable and re-usable.
The Braava jet 240 pads for the sweeping and wet sweeping are meant for 1 use only and have detergent already in the pads so only water is needed, the scrubbing pad has nothing added so if you want a detergent smell you can spray it onto the cloth before using the machine.
The power comes from a removable rechargeable battery pack in the machine which fits into a plug adapter for charging and takes about 2 hours. This machine has iAdapt navigation installed so it doesn’t require a navigation cube but it can’t do as large an area as the 380T. The water is added to the machine and each pad has a cardboard back to it which slides onto the base of the unit and holes in the card are used by the machine to identify which pad is being used so which mode of cleaning is required.
In the wet cleaning modes there is a water spray that is used automatically and the pads agitate from side to side for better cleaning. There is a virtual wall function built in so if you have an extra large room you can divide it, just place the unit on the floor and press the button until the blue lines come on next to the button. The machine will automatically not go past this invisible line. This is a useful little machine but the reason we didn’t make it no1 is because of the disposable pads required and added cost. #3 EVERYBOT RS500 Microfiber Mop Pad Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Pads 4 Pack
This EVERYBOT RS500 Microfiber Mop Pad Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Pads 4 Pack doesn’t look like a typical robot cleaner but it has sensors installed to stop it bumping into furniture and dropping off steps. This robot has 2 pads installed onto the reservoir fittings in the base of the unit.
The Everybot seems to work a bit like a floor polisher, the circular fittings have a reservoir which is filled with water and clips into the base, there are tiny holes which allow the water to drip onto the cloth when it is attached. The mops rotate mopping the floor while the machine itself moves in various modes which can be selected by the remote control supplied with the machine.
The modes are Auto, Focus, Corner, Manual, S Cleaning, Y Cleaning and Handy Cleaning Mode. There is a handle on the top of the machine and you can use it in hand cleaning mode to clean walls and tables. This is a handy gadget that gives a good cleaning performance. It takes 2 hours to charge the machine and it has a cleaning time of 40 minutes if wet washing and 50 minutes if dry wiping. If you want to use the dry wipe mode first you just use without water in the reservoir. The cleaning cloths are washable and extras are in the pack. Well worth a look.
#4 ILIFE V5s Pro Robotic Vacuum Cleaner with Water Tank
This is our first dual robot vacuum cleaner and mop reviewed. Not only do you get the benefit of a vacuum cleaner but you can convert it to a wet mop cleaner too. We aren’t going to go into all the details of the vacuum part as this page is about mopping robots so will will look at that function on this machine.
The ILIFE V5s Pro Robotic Vacuum Cleaner with Water Tank has a docking station where it is charged for use and it is controlled by a remote control, that being said when you want to use the mopping function the dirt bin is removed from the unit and a water tank is put in it’s place.
The mop attachment that comes with the unit it then attached to the base, you can wet the cloth before placing on the attachment so it can wash the floor straight away and the water tank drips water onto the cloth so it keeps it wet.
Although the robot vacuum can be scheduled you can’t use that function when the water tank is in the unit, water and electric don’t mix well. The machine will move in it’s normal mode, so for this robot vacuum it works in a random pattern and it will wash in that pattern too. That may not be a problem but with a random cleaning pattern there is no guarantee that it won’t make multiple passes in one area and miss others.
This is a great extra option and is easy to setup but it may not do the best clean. If you’re just happy to get a quick mop it should do that for you. The cleaning cloth can go into the washing machine after use. If you are wanting a robot vacuum and mop then check this one out.
#5 ECOVACS DEEBOT R95 Smart Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
The ECOVACS DEEBOT R95 Smart Robotic Vacuum Cleaner is the newest in the Ecovacs range, it is a 5 point cleaning system where the first 3 are the vacuuming side of things, the side brushes, rotary brush and dust bin and the last 2 are the mopping bits, the wet mop and dry mop.
The mopping assembly houses a small reservoir to place the water for the first part of the mop pad, this gets wet and washes the floor as the robot vacuum moves in it’s cleaning pattern and the back part of the mop pad stays dry so it can dry the floor as it passes over it.
The best part about this newer model is the fact that it can scan the room and clean efficiently backwards and forwards so it covers the whole room, this is better when you are mopping too so there are less marks left on the floor.
This Deebot R95 works with an app for controlling the scheduling and the cleaning but it also includes the option to add in a virtual wall so if you have a large room you can divide it or if you have a particular area in your room maybe where your pets sleep or if you have a heating vent in the floor or any reason you don’t want your bot to clean there you can set a virtual wall using the app. You get the map of the room from the vacuum after it has scanned it sent to the app and you can draw on your virtual wall using the screen on the app – neat!
These mopping units aren’t like mopping it yourself but if you are vacuuming daily and using your mop daily it will definitely make a difference to the look of your floors, and if you have pets it can deal with daily hair collection and foot marks. This is definitely a machine worth checking out.
#6 Proscenic 790T WIFI Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
We chose this Proscenic 790T WIFI Robotic Vacuum Cleaner because it is a robot vacuum with mop and the mop attachment has a water reservoir. This robot vacuum has an app that you can install on your phone to control the vacuum as well as a remote control. It can be scheduled to run daily.
The difference with this machine is the fact that when you use the mopping function you remove the brush and replace it with another part that when connected lets the vacuum know it is on mopping mode and it has a gap so the vacuum can still suck up dust as it’s mopping.
The water tank is part of the mopping pad attachment in the Proscenic 790T , you just remove the rubber plug and fill with water which will drip onto the cleaning pad to wash the floor. It’s better to wet the mopping pad before starting. Then you just set off your vacuum to clean and it will suck up dust and wash at the same time.
There is no agitation in the mopping action so it will only clean what it can wipe in one pass, the good thing about this vacuum is that it has a linear mapping program so the vacuum should cover the whole floor in a methodical way. This isn’t going to deep clean your floor but can be a handy option to have for a basic clean. The unit comes with 2 cleaning pads which can be washed in the washing machine.
#7 bObsweep PetHair Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop
The bObsweep PetHair Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop is a great all round cleaner that can give you a vacuum and mop in one machine. So what makes it different from all the rest?
Well this not only has a mopping function but it has an ultra-violet light on the bottom which sanitises the floor whether it is vacuuming or mopping. The bObsweep is basically designed to pick up pet hair with the vacuum and clean up their paw prints with the mop.
You have all of the basic options of a robot vacuum with scheduling and a remote control. The vacuum is charged via a charging dock and cleans well on a hard floor. The mopping attachment fits on the back of the unit with a clip on fitting and the cloth is attached by velcro. There is no water tank or reservoir so the only way it can mop is for you to wet the cloth before the cleaning begins.
This will work well on small areas but you would have to keep wetting the cloth or replacing it with another wet cloth as you go. The vacuum has a random cleaning pattern but should cover most of the floor, it will concentrate on dirty areas so this might help the cleaning cloth have a better chance at cleaning dirtier spots.
As this is a robot vacuum first and a mop second the mopping function isn’t the best. You can run it with a dry cloth for extra polishing on the floor or as the wet wipe option. If the mopping part is just a secondary need then this might be a good option for you.
#8 Haier Self Charging Wet Mop Floor Cleaning Robot Vacuum
This Haier Self Charging Wet Mop Floor Cleaning Robot Vacuum is similar to the Proscenic in that it has a mopping attachment with a water reservoir. This robot vacuum can be charged using it’s charging dock and can be scheduled to clean on a daily basis.
There is no rotary brush installed just the side brushes and the suction opening which allows the mopping attachment to be used while the robot vacuum is following it’s normal cleaning path. The attachment should not be used while charging and should be removed before the robot returns for re-charge.
The attachment is carefully filled with water, the pad is attached by velcro and the whole unit is easily clipped onto the base. The Haier Robot Vacuum cleans randomly so it might miss spots when it cleans with the mop but it does a reasonably good job.
This vacuum also comes with a virtual wall so you can limit where the vacuum goes if you need to, just set it as a barrier wall or protect a delicate object so the vacuum will go around it. There are some benefits to having a mop attached to a robot vacuum.
#9 ECOVACS DEEBOT M80 Pro Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
The ECOVACS DEEBOT M80 Pro Robotic Vacuum Cleaner has a mopping system alongside the vacuum cleaner. The robot vacuum has all the brushes to clean your floors and pick up all the dirt and debris that is there, the mopping function can be installed at the same time.
This isn’t exactly the same as the other mopping functions we have seen in our previous selections, this mopping attachment and pad offer a wash and dry feature. The mop fitting has a water container within it but the way it is designed it only wets one part of the cleaning pad to wash the floor and the second half of the pad dries the floor behind it so this should leave you floor clean and dry and with less streaks.
The ECOVACS DEEBOT M80 Pro is charged with a docking station and scheduled with a remote control. It has a full suite of sensors to avoid objects and falling off steps. There are different modes of cleaning patterns and the mopping can be done with all of these.
#10 Yujin Robot eX500 Smart Home/Office Vacuum Cleaner
We chose to add this Yujin Robot eX500 Smart Home/Office Vacuum Cleaner to our list because it is a robot vacuum with mop but the vacuum cleans in a linear fashion making the mopping straighter along the floor so less criss cross marks.
The Yujin vacuum has camera vision mapping to map its area and clean it in a methodical manner. The charging is done on a dock and the vacuum is controlled by a remote control.
The mopping attachment fits to the base of the vacuum and just holds the cloth but there is no reservoir to wet it so you would need to wet the cloth before starting, and maybe stop the vacuum if you notice the floor isn’t wet to remove and re-dampen the cloth.
This isn’t the most efficient way to mop a floor and depending on the size of your room would depend if this would work for you, it might be sufficient in a small area. If you want a vacuum and you would like some kind of mopping action then this could work for you. If you need a bit more serious floor washing then I would check out our No1 choice.
Whether you’re looking for the best robot mop for hardwood floors or just something that will take off the top layer of dirt till you have the time to do a more thorough clean we think the first mopping robot you should check out first is our No1 choice of the best mopping robot 2017 the iRobot Braava 380t Mopping Robot – Robotic Mop and if it doesn’t meet you needs check out the others above.
